Denny Heck Statement on Rising Unemployment Claims

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monday, August 20, 2020

SEATTLE, WA- Congressman Denny Heck, a candidate for Lt. Governor, issued the following statement in response to the news that 1.1 million new unemployment claims were filed nationwide last week, including 21,942 in Washington state:

“Each week that Senate Republicans hold vital pandemic aid hostage, tens of thousands of additional Washingtonians file for unemployment. I will fight until my final day in Congress to restore expanded $600 per week unemployment benefits—and keep it in place until both the public health and economic crises have subsided.

And when the legislature convenes next year, as your Lt. Governor, I will work tirelessly to ensure no worker, family, or small business in our state gets left behind in our response to pandemic. I will not let the livelihoods of everyday Washingtonians be subject to the cynical, partisan whims of the other Washington.”
